Chronic conditions are marked by a long duration or frequent recurrences of distress & dysfunction... and the development of compensatory patterns that further weaken and stress your body.
What are Chronic Conditions?
The word "chronic" is defined as being "marked by a long duration or frequent recurrences... always present or encountered... constantly vexing, weakening or troubling".
There is another aspect to 'chronic conditions' which often relates to poor, disappointing or little response to past treatments. People have gone from one doctor or therapist to another without experiencing the results they were looking for. When people like this began working with Joel Safran, RMT, over 80% of these people who had been suffering from difficult chronic conditions were able to find and experience the results they had been searching for. So, there is always hope that there is someone out there who can help you.
With a chronic condition, your body generally attempts to make compensating (compromising) adjustments for the various soft tissue imbalances and restrictions that relate to the 'root cause' of the chronic condition. This process of layering one compensatory pattern upon another continues... which adds to the weakness and inability of the body to properly function... until the body just cannot compensate effectively any more.
Over the years, old unresolved injuries from accidents, falls and other types of trauma (whiplash, sports injuries, job related conditions, etc.) can and has resulted in Jaw & Neck conditions which produces other conditions such as TMJ disorders, Headache, Hypertension, Frozen shoulder, Abdominal pain, Digestive disorders... and Neck pain / conditions can become Back pain / conditions.
Chronic conditions can develop from a number of old unresolved 'problems' that your body has had to deal with week after week... year after year... such as from:
ACCIDENTS & INJURIES involving:
Motor Vehicles... Occupation... Sports & Recreation... Objects that fall on you... and so on.
PHYSIOLOGICAL & MEDICAL issues relating to:
illness... Surgeries... Broken Bones... Genetic Weakness... Visceral & CranioSacral Restrictions... and so on.
EMOTIONAL ISSUES relating to:
Physical or Emotional Abuse (as a child or as an adult)... Personality Type... Coping with STRESS... and so on.
Chronic Conditions
are generally related to 'Soft tissue' Conditions.
This practice is based on this and other Osteopathic Principles.
