CRANIOSACRAL RESTRICTIONS
CranioSacral Restrictions are deep 'behind the scene' imbalances affecting sutural and membranous tissues within and in between the Cranial Bones. These imbalances then contribute to other conditions and disorders.
CranioSacral Restrictions...
(and the effect on body Structure & Function...)
CranioSacral Restrictions are deep imbalances that affect the dense membranous tissues within the Cranium, Spine and Sacrum. This 'affect' is generally in the form of torques and contractions of the Sutural and/or Membranous tissues... These structural imbalances and distortions then contribute to restrictions and imbalances in other parts of the body... and they also contribute to a number of functional conditions such as:
Behavioral Conditions
Motor Co-ordination & Speech Conditions
Learning Disabilities
Seizure or Convulsions
Autism
Altered Sense Abilities (sight, smell, taste, hearing, touch)
Headaches & Migraines (increased Cranial blockage of blood)
...and so on.
And at the same time, these structural imbalances and distortions contribute to other distortions and imbalances in various parts of the body. These include the more obvious Chronic Conditions mentioned in the other sections of this website... such as:
Postural / Structural Disorders
TMJ Dysfunction & Disorders
Scoliosis (Lateral & Rotational)
![]() The CranioSacral System consists of 22 Cranial Bones and the Sacrum... Their ability to freely and properly move is related to the quality of the Sutures and Membranous soft tissues attached to these Bones. When there are restrictions, structural and functional conditions usually result.
The Membranous Tissues in a sense 'free fall' though the inside of the Spine... and attach to the Sacrum. The distorted positions of the Cranial Bones can create distortions in the Sacrum... which results in further distortions in the Legs, Pelvis, Rib Cage, and so on. Distortions of structures can also contribute to undesired changes in function and physiology of our body systems.
Some Goals in Treating Chronic Conditions
that relate to CranioSacral Restrictions...
1. Normalize the Sutural Tissues between Cranial Bones.
2. Normalize the Membranous Tissues which house the Brain and Spinal Cord... and which internally attach to certain aspects of the Cranium, Cervical Vertebrae and Sacrum.
3. Normalize other Muscle and Fascial tissues which further restrict the CranioSacral System and proper range of motion.
Anticipated Results... as Goals are Achieved...
1. More balanced and productive movement of the CranioSacral System's bones and soft tissues.
2. Improvements in Structure and Function of the body.
3. Improvements in Physiological Functions.
4. A reduced feeling of 'STRESS'... and a greater feeling of ease and Well being.
Food for the BRAIN...
Bear in mind that the Brain requires 750 ml of oxygenated blood every minute to maintain normal activity. As the CranioSacral System's rhythm and range of motion becomes stronger and more balanced, the system is more capable of producing CerebroSpinal Fluid. CSF is a clear fluid refined from the blood. Increased production of CSF enables the adequate nourishment and maintenance of the tissues of the Brain and Spinal Cord... so that our Central Nervous System can function better in a number of positive and essential ways.
