Advanced Soft Tissue and Osteopathic Techniques
generally provide additional benefits that more fully
integrates and enhances the healing process.

Osteopathic Techniques are provided in this practice

Massage  Therapy...  and  Beyond  Massage
A  Brief  Overview

The massage techniques taught in schools are generally based on Swedish massage.  After graduation and registration, massage therapists can choose to base their practice on just those techniques... or they can choose to expand their knowledge and abilities by investing in the study of what is considered 'advanced soft tissue techniques'.  Some therapists invest more in themselves than others do...  And depending on individual interests, the mix of chosen techniques may vary from therapist to therapist.

Over the years, the complementary mix of 'advanced soft tissue' and Osteopathic techniques proved to be most effective in treating a variety of conditions.  The practice of Joel Safran has therefore been based on this level of Physical Therapy and Manual Medical Techniques... which includes:

NeuroMuscular  Therapy
CranioSacral  Therapy
Structural  Integration
Muscle  Energy  Techniques
Visceral  Manipulation
Clinical  Massage  Techniques
Flexibility  Conditioning
Health  &  Nutrition  Education

The 'continuing education' process is on going.  It is a personal investment in a  therapist... and in a therapist's desire to provide clients with a more effective therapy session.  To dedicated therapists, there is always something more that needs to be learned and understood so as to further benefit patients.  During his first 15 years of practice, Joel Safran, RMT has invested over 1500 hours in continuing education... as well as over 200 hours assisting in the instruction of other therapists.

Massage Therapy provides these basic benefits:

Improves flow of blood, lymph and other fluids
Enhances tissue and cellular nutrition
Assists in the removal of toxins and cellular waste products
Improves immune system functions
Promotes healing
Increases flexibility
Reduces muscle pain and Spasm
Promotes calmness and a sense of well being

'Advanced soft tissue techniques' generally expand upon these benefits.  These techniques also provide other benefits that tend to integrate the body's healing process more thoroughly.  Treatments such as these generally provide more profound and long lasting results.

This approach aims at working with the Principles of Osteopathy... which emphasizes overall health through encouraging balance and harmony between the relationships of the body's Nerves, Muscles, Bones, and Organs.  Treatments are based on the understanding that the systems of our body are interconnected.

Principles of Osteopathy
and the focus of this practice

1.  The body is an integrated whole.  When each structure and part is able to support the whole body, the result is increased function and health.

2.  The natural flow of the body's fluids - lymphatic, vascular and neurological - must be balanced and maintained.

3.  Nerves play a crucial part in controlling the fluids of the body.

4.  The body possesses self-regulatory mechanisms for its self maintenance.  When its ability to adapt is disrupted, disease and dysfunction generally occurs.

5.  When the body has no restrictions retarding its proper functions, it has the inherent to heal itself.

6.  A healthy human body is the sum total of its physical, emotional, social and spiritual parts and systems working in harmony.
