Pregnancy and birth can create trauma that shows as neck and shoulder weakness and pain, and craniosacral distortions.

                                      UNDERSTANDING
                   Pediatric  &  Childhood  Conditions

Children respond more quickly to Therapy...

Children generally respond much more quickly and completely to Therapy than adults.  This is because their bones and tissues are still young and unaffected by the traumas in their body.  Untreated, distortions will gradually change their bones to conform to the forces of these distortions.  This is termed "remodeling".  During remodeling, related soft tissues will also become unbalanced, distorted and abnormal.  During the years that children eventually become adults, many layers of "compensatory patterns" will be formed... onr on top of one another.  Therefore in an adult, the chronic conditions from the 'primary distortions' become much more chronic, complex and firmly established in our body.  So, why let that happen to your child.

A young body hides distortions that can lead to scoliosis, sports injury, reading and learning problems.

It makes much more sense
to remove structural distortions
from your child's body... before
conditions become rigidly fixed, chronic and complex.

The "Compensatory Process" weakens the body...

The function of the body is to find a way to compensate... and keep things going... buying time, so to speak.  But,  new layers of 'compensatory patterns' keep developing year after year.  In young children and teenagers, this will show as unusually early proneness to pain, injuries and certain "diseases".  As a child matures, the ability of their body to 'compensate' diminishes.  Weakness develops.  Our bodies become more injury prone in sports and recreation activities.  And when we get into our 40s, 50s and 60's... well you know what happens.  Conditions become more established chronic and complex.  We develop what is called "diseases" perhaps because the body has wasted precious energy in its attempt to compensate with an ongoing Band-Aid approach to life.  Quite often, this could have been circumvented with proper therapy for children.

The Compensatory Process robs the body
of it's future Abilities, Health... and potential...

Activities of childhood add to earlier distortions and contributes to TMJ, head, headache, neck, pelvic, leg and hip pain,
Adult Conditions often have their beginnings in childhood and/or birth...

We are talking about the body becoming more injury prone regarding sports, falls and other accidents... We are talking about conditions like TMJ  Dysfunctions and Scoliosis... we are talking about Abdominal / Pelvic & Digestive Conditions... And we are talking about a variety of Aches, Pains & Stiffness in the Neck, Shoulders, Arms, Back, Hips, Knees and elsewhere.  We are talking about Physical conditions as well as conditions affecting the Physiological functioning of Organs and Body Systems.

Once an adult's Bones & Tissues have been greatly "remodeled", these chronic conditions generally require well thought out long term treatment strategies.  However, in the treatment of children, results generally come much more quickly.

Parents who support their children with early therapy, provide them with a very special gift.  the gift of being able to develop more normally and whole...  The opportunity to become more productive, able and comfortable in life.  You can do this for your child.

Childhood  Trauma
can  come  from  many  sources...
For  instance...

During Pregnancy...

A pregnancy could be uneventful... or traumatic due to resulting complications from illness, falls, motor vehicle accidents, and so on.

During Delivery...

Presentation and Delivery could be non problematic...  Or the Delivery may become difficult... and require force that could injure young fragile newborn tissues.

The Last Trimester...

Cramped quarters for a long period of time...  The development of structural patterns and imbalances that, in varying degrees, we are all born with.  These distortions generally are some of the root causes of structural issues such as Scoliosis, TMJ distortions and so on.  They probably also contribute to a wide range of other Physical & Physiological conditions and issues as well.

The Active Childhood Life...

Be alert for slow development of speech, walking, eye movement, social and behavioral abilities.
From newborn to toddler, to active childhood...  the bumps and bangs of life can take their toll on a young body.  A body that already has imbalances will be weaker and therefore more susceptible to lasting injuries.  And then there are the really severe physical injuries that can greatly affect even a "more perfect" body.

Childhood Diseases...

There are many named "Diseases".  However, rather than looking at them as "Diseases"... let's look at them as "Soft Tissue restrictions and imbalances" that can create undesirable conditions in a body.  In most cases, these issues can be effectively handled so as to improve the balance and function needed for the developing bodies and minds of our next generation.

Treatment Strategies, Goals and Protocols are similar to that discussed on the "TMJ  Disorders"
WebPage.  The main difference is the degree of extra care that will be taken because a child's bones
and tissues have not yet fully developed.  This sensitive, "Wholistic" and light approach is all that is
needed for children.

A wholistic (holistic) treatment approach works with the craniosacral system, the bones of the head, spine and hips, the soft tissues, the whole body. Osteopathic techniques and principles are used in this practice.
Compression, Restriction & Fixation Issues...
Abnormally tight and unbalanced Fascial & Membranous tissues within the CranioSacral System can contribute to a variety of so called "Disease" conditions.  That then shows as immobility in Joints, such as in the Lumbar & Sacral area.  This immobility and restriction can contribute to a number of Physical & Physiological conditions involving:

Structural Issues...
          Scoliosis                                Joint Fixation
          TMJ  Dysfunction               Grinding of Teeth

Blockage Issues (Compression - Restriction)...
          Headaches                                        Ear Ache
Ear & Throat Inflammation          Asthma & Allergies
          Sinus Congestion                          Abdominal Pain
          Eye Mobility Problems                 Constipation
          Esophageal Reflux                        Colic

Mental Abilities  -  Behavioral Issues...
          ADHD                                                  Dyslexia
          Reading & Learning Problems

Neurological Damage Issues...
Because of heredity... or the effect of viral or bacterial damage... or physical trauma during birth and other influences... important Cranial Nerves may have been damaged or impaired in some way.  Supposedly, as some believe, these nerves cannot regenerate or repair.  But others know that the body will attempt to find a way to "heal" and repair itself... especially if it is assisted with appropriate therapy and attitude.  It is our job, both as patient and practitioner, to facilitate the body in doing just hat.  Some of these issues are:

                    Epilepsy                                              Cerebral Palsy
                                      Down's Syndrome                           Autism

Take care of yourself and your child to reduce and eliminate problems regarding scoliosis, TMJ, headache; mental, behavioral, learning and reading abilities; and proneness to physical and sports injury.

It's  a  Wonderful  Gift...
Do  this  for  Your  Child...

In many different ways, the health & wellbeing of a child can be compromised and challenged...  Quite often, appropriate therapeutic techniques can reverse and remove the root cause of these conditions...  Quite often, children can regain, in some way, their ability to heal and properly function... and to enjoy a more productive and whole life.  It is a wonderful experience being able to facilitate this for anyone...  but it is especially wonderful to be able to do this for a child.

Your child has the gift of life...
You can give them the gift of
a more healthy and productive life.
